Volleyball Announces '08 Schedule

July 15, 2008

The Westminster volleyball team announced its schedule for the 2008 season.  Coming off a first-ever trip to the NAIA National Championships, the Griffins put together a tough schedule for themselves in 2008.

The season will open with the NAIA Tournament of Champions hosted by Westminster.  This year the tournament will be held at Salt Lake Community College and will feature some tough competition.  The Griffins will face the College of Idaho, Mesa State (NCAA DII), and Concordia (Calif.) in the event.  The following weekend it’s a trip to Irvine, California for the Concordia Labor Day Tournament.  At this tournament the Griffins will face Vanguard, Biola, Fresno Pacific, and Westmont.

The Frontier Conference action should be intense this season as well.  Every team in the conference has upgraded in talent during the off season, so this should be the most competitive Frontier Conference season yet.  Just to make it interesting, the Griffins will head to Illinois half way through the conference schedule for the Olivet Nazarene Tournament.

Griffin Spikers Add Two More

4-18-2008

The Westminster volleyball team is pleased to announce the signing of two more players for the 2008 season. Kathryn Waldie and Kristine Cochran have each signed an NAIA letter of intent to join the Griffins next season.

Waldie will join the Griffins from Union Mine High School in El Dorado, California. She is a 5-8 outside hitter and plans on majoring in Business. “We are real excited to add Katie to our program,” head coach Kim Norman stated. “She is very athletic and will give us depth at several positions with her versatility.”

Cochran is joining the program from Uintah High School in Vernal, Utah. She is 5-11 and can play several positions. At Westminster she plans on working towards a pre-dental major. Cochran is a three-time letter winner in volleyball and twice in basketball. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

“Kris will be a great addition to our program,” said Norman. “She can play several positions and could contribute right away.”

Griffins Add Local Talent to Roster

2-14-2008

Westminster volleyball coach Kim Norman is pleased to announce that Anne Elise Hackamack has signed a letter of intent to join the Griffins in 2008. Hackamack, who goes by Elise, is a 5-10 right side hitter/setter that preps at Wasatch High School in Heber City, Utah. This past season she helped the Wasps to 11 wins as the team captain.

“We are excited to have Elise join the Griffin program,” stated Norman. “I feel she is a diamond in the rough and will help us right away.

“I chose Westminster because I loved the small school atmosphere in the Salt Lake City area,” Hackamack stated. “I really enjoyed meeting the team and I think that Kim Norman is a great coach.”

Westminster is coming off the most successful season in school history with 25 wins and a first-ever trip to the NAIA National Championships.
