2008 Fall Season Recap

Westminster College men’s and women’s golf teams have just completed their 2008 fall season. The teams competed in three events hosted by Montana Tech, Carroll, and Rocky Mountain.

The Montana Tech Invitational was held at the Fairmont golf course in Butte, Montana on September 14-15. The men’s team finished seventh out of nine teams and the women’s team finished eighth out of nine. At this event, history was made by Gary Knight as he became the first golfer to ever finish first place for Westminster College. Gary finished the event five-under par. Bryce Hill finished the event tied for 25th place. Keisha Catten ended up 32nd place and Jesika Hilton finished 40th for the women.

The Carroll College Invitational was held at the Green Meadow Country Club in Helena, Montana on September 22-23. The men’s team finished sixth out of nine teams and the women’s team place eighth. Gary Knight finished tied for 20th place and Nick Cruz finished tied for 32nd place. For the women, Keshia Catten finished 29th and Annie Haperstock finished 37th.

The Rocky Mountain Invitational was held at the Peter Yegen Golf Club in Billings, Montana on September 28-29. The men’s team finished fifth place out of 11 teams and the women’s team finished 10th out of 11 teams. Bryce Till finished tied for 16th place and Gary Knight finished tied for 18th place. The men’s team did set a low score record finishing with a 280. Keshia Catten finished 34th place and Jesika Hilton finished 51st place for the women.

Westminster Golf Team Looking for Team Members

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Westminster golf team, there will be a meeting on Wednesday, August 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Behnken Field House. Head Coach JD Gustin is looking for anyone that is interested in playing competitive intercollegiate golf this upcoming season, espicially women.

Both Griffin Teams Place Fifth

The Westminster golf teams completed play at the Carroll Invitational in Helena, Mont. on Tuesday afternoon. The Griffin men’s team picked up a fifth place finish while the women also placed fifth.

The men were led by Gary Knight and his fourth place finish. Knight shot a three-round total of 219 (73-73-73). As a team the Griffins shot a 914 (305-300-309). Patrick Roeder was the next low Griffin with a score of 228 (79-72-77) which was good enough for 21st place. Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) won the event with a score of 879 (290-289-300). Bjorn Ottesson of Rocky was the top individual with his three-round score of 215 (70-66-79).

In the women’s division the Griffins shot a three-round total of 1,286 (433-415-438), placing them fifth. They were led by NiCassia Gabiola-Harris and her 20th-place finish with a score of 273 (91-95-87). Liz Tippy placed 25th with a 288 (99-100-89). Rocky Mountain College won the event with a score of 922 (303-306-313) and Juanita Villa of Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) was the top individual at 220 (73-70-77).

Griffins Begin 2007-08 Season

The Westminster golf team’s opened play in the 2007 season over the weekend in Anaconda, Mont. The event hosted by Montana Tech at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort saw eight teams compete in the men’s division. The Griffins shot a three-round total of 884, which was good enough for a school record second place finish. Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) won the tournament with a score of 868.

The Griffins were led by David Wintzer and his 220 total score. Chad Rinderknecht shot a 221 and Tyler Wiscomb came in at 224. Patrick Roeder shot a 225 and Garry Knight’s 227 rounded out the Griffins’ scores.

The women placed fifth in the six team field with a team score of 1,424. The women’s division was also won by Rocky Mountain College. Rocky shot a team total of 947.

Leading the Griffins was NiCassia Gabiola-Harris. She shot a 283, 95-98-90. Liz Tippy came in at 302 followed by Suzanne Young at 407 and Jessika Hilton at 432.

Westminster returns to action this weekend when they travel to Helena, Mont. To compete in the Carrol College Invitational.
