9/9 Westminster and UCCD Present a Lecture on "Trans-Atlantic Mega-Trends: Trade Ties & Frayed Ties"

Michael Maibach discusses the single largest commercial relationship in the world

SALT LAKE CITY– Westminster College and the Utah Council of Citizen Diplomacy present a lecture by Michael Maibach on Trans-Atlantic Mega-Trends: Trade Ties & Frayed Ties on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall in the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory. This lecture is part of the 2008-09 American Express Weldon J. Taylor Executive Lecture Series.

The Trans-Atlantic relationship is the single largest commercial relationship in the world. The powerful bilateral relationship fosters competiveness, economic growth and stability between the United States and Europe, as well as much of the world. However, as strong as the economic relationship is, the sociopolitical ties have been frayed by the Iraq War and won't be resolved without strong commitments from leaders on both sides of the Atlantic.

Maibach has been president and CEO of the European-American Business Council (EABC) since 2003. The EABC is an independent global business association of 75 companies with a win-win philosophy that supports unrestricted transatlantic investment and trade between the United States and Europe. Prior to heading EABC, Maibach served as vice president of government affairs at the Intel Corporation from 1983 to 2001. He holds several degrees, and has published dozens of essays on business, trade, technology and government.

All lectures are free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.westmintercollege.edu/cultural_events, or www.utahdiplomacy.org.
